Post COVID Syndrome: Aftermath Of A Pandemic

Introduction COVID-19 is caused by the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It presents with a wide spectrum of symptoms, ranging from asymptomatic to life-threatening disease. Worldwide about 117 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 with more than 2.6 million deaths until march 20211 . The majority of SARS-CoV2 infected people suffer from mild to moderate illness. But approximately 10 to 15% develop severe illness and 5% get critically ill2 . Flu-like illness like fever, cough, rhinorrhea, fatigue, myalgias are common manifestations of COVID-19. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, weakness, anosmia, ageusia are other presentation of the mild form of the disease. The virus also causes severe illness like pneumonia, hypoxia even ARDS.
