Screening Of Lung Cancer: Anticipation For A Better Prospect

Md. Khairul Hassan Jessy1, Bulbul Parveen2, Syed Nesar Ahmed2

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer related deaths worldwide, comprising almost 20% of such deaths1. Up to 80% of lung cancer cases are
related to exposure to cigarette smoke2. Most patients are diagnosed with locally advanced or metastatic disease, which carry a five-year survival rate of 17%3.
Therefore, identification of lung cancer at an early stage can potentially lead to a significant reduction in morbidity and mortality. Many research efforts have
focused on developing screening methodologies that target individuals at risk.
