The most common cause of death from cancer worldwide is lung cancer which causes the death of about 1.59 million people per year. The prognosis remains poor as more than 70% patients die at 1 year and 5 years survival is 6-8%. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for the majority of all lung cancer cases. Risk factors for developing NSCLC have been identified with cigarette smoking being a major factor along with other environmental and genetic risk factors.
