Accuracy of Gene Xpert MTB/RIF in New and Retreatment Cases of Tubercular Lymphadenitis

Abstract Background: Routinely Tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBLN) is diagnosed by fine-needle-aspiration cytology (FNAC) or histopathology. During treatment, many cases may be relapsed, failed or converted to cold abscess. Xpert MTB/RIF is a new diagnostic tool for bacteriologic evidence of Tuberculous lymphadenitis. Xpert MTB/RIF can detect TBLN rapidly (within 2 hr.) and play role in the categorization of TB treatment. This study was done at NTRL, NIDCH, Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh from February, 2013 to January 2014 to assess the diagnostic accuracy of Gene Xpert MTB/RIF rapidly (within 2hr) with bacteriologic documentation of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis.
